Conjuring Art & Language

For the NAFAE symposium (2017) the gallery space of Coventry University was turned into a seminar space and discussion forum, where delegates debated texts authored by conceptual artists Art & Language, who also ran the infamous radical ‘theory course’ here (1969-71). These texts were screenprinted and displayed as aesthetic objects on the gallery walls. Participants used them to start debates about the nature of the contemporary art school, and were invited to critique them, removing them from the walls and annotating where necessary. Furniture was arranged so that the discussion space and posters could be also be regarded aesthetically, like a minimalist sculpture.
